(i) Engineering/Technical Staff:
Today, the Institute boasts of a talented, intelligent and hardworking young engineer and technical staff. The engineers, who are being trained locally and overseas, will take engineering design in this country to the highest level. Currently, the Institute has fifty-one (51) university graduate engineers, twenty six (26) technologists/technicians and six (6) Scientists. This is one of the best in any parastatals of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

This is out of a staff strength of 124.
Whereas when the Director/CEO assumed duty in June 2004, the staff strength was 12 including those staff that were deployed from NASENI headquarter with only one (1) engineer and one (1) technologist.

(ii) Other Staff:
Other staffs are spread in other departments/units; and these include Administrative and Human Resources Department, Finance and Account Department, and Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation & Marketing Unit.

(iii) Staff Welfare/Encouragement:
Our mission is to be the best engineering design centre in Africa with highly productive and motivated staff whose products rank among the best in the world. Part of our motivation to staff includes the followings:

(i) Management is unambiguous in her resolve on staff development. So, we go the extra mile to encourage staff in the area of training and retraining even though resources are lean. All NEDDI staff doing academic programmes are granted a partial scholarship in which a certain percentage of the candidate's tuition is paid in addition to granting the staff two days off work weekly to attend to their academics.

(ii) Laptop for All NEDDI Staffs Initiative (LANSI) - This project is designed to equip all NEDDI staff with a laptop each for greater productivity. The project is supported by a revolving loan granted to the committee set up by management to oversee it. As beneficiaries begin to pay back (at a very reasonable instalment) more people benefit.

(iii) Bereaved staff are supported in accordance with provisions of the public service rules and regulations. Furthermore, staff are given financial gifts during social events as marriages and child dedication according to a percentage of their basic salary as agreed by management. In addition, all NEDDI employees benefit from the annual end of year gifts.
(iv) All work without play makes Jack a dull boy, so the saying goes. The NEDDI management inaugurated a sports club in 2007. The idea is to promote regular exercise that is good for the body and provide an avenue for social interaction necessary for team spirit at work.
(v) The NEDDI Cooperative Society has been encouraged by NEDDI Management and also ensures its effective management. This has boosted the welfare of the entire staff.
(vi) As part of the management's welfare and motivation, Management has instituted an award for the best staff of the department as well as the best staff of the year. This will go a long way to boost the morale of staff.
